Square drills are not intended for use in conventional electric drills; square holes require a special square hole drill (Mortaise and Tenon). The mortaise and square tenon holes are drilled with a special + external insert in the center of the combination.

The design uses a rotating body, while the hammer's impact force is transferred to the outer body to process the round hole as well as the square edges; the dust is directed away through the tube.
